Setting the Stage in Open Cloud
In this opening talk we take the open source practitioner's perspective to look at policy issues raised by a key question in the value chain of open source cloud software innovation: will the code be successful? From its beginnings of landmark projects developed by individuals, open source software has evolved into a support mechanism for innovations carried out by ecosystems of companies and research organizations working together in collaborative projects. We will look at several  open source cloud-oriented collaborative projects including some from the European Open Cloud Directory and see how, while these innovative ecosystems create breakthrough technologies, they do not aim at delivering market-ready products. These projects confront us with what we call the Delivery Challenge of open source innovation: i.e. how to guarantee the operational quality of these innovations, how to turn these innovations into competitive offerings. While large users are quickly getting familiar with cloud technologies, offering the benefits of the cloud to SMEs is still a necessary evolution. This market will be ripped by a, emerging breed of service vendors with packaged mature offerings helping SMEs make the best out of their own infrastructure and the heterogenous cloud ecosystem.

OpenCloudware: The vApp Lifecycle Management Solution for Multi-Cloud
The main way to “go cloud” has proved to be, for security and  economic reasons, hybrid : mixing private with public. Moving to Cloud  PaaS is then requires to: manage the lifecycle of applications over  different cloud providers; mask the heterogeneity; automate the  deployment whatever the application technology and execution environment  are, etc. This is what tackles OpenCloudware, which aims at enabling  flexible multi-cloud applications thanks to a full automated  think-build-run chain.
<p>In the presentation we present a sample  from OpenCloudware results demonstrating in particular a complete  mechanism, comprising: application selection, deployment, benchmarking.  OpenCloudware supports many IaaS infrasctructures, including OpenStack (via OW2stack). OpenCloudware is supported by the French administration through its IT  support program "Fond National pour la Société Numérique".

XLCloud: 3D Rendering in the Cloud
The XLcloud project strives to establish the demonstration of a High Performance Cloud Computing (HPCC) platform based on OpenStack that is designed to run a representative set of compute intensive workloads. Two Use Cases will be demonstrated during this presentation. First, the interventional radiology use case of the XLCloud project has the goal to show that the XLCLoud platform can be used to leverage an application requiring both interaction and high performance computing. This simulator, developed by CEA and Esprimed, allows medical staff  to prepare or replay an intervention in a 3D interactive environment (manipulation of the radiological system, position of people and their protections) while having the benefit of precise estimation of the dose they are exposed to through a 3D monte carlo simulation optimized in order to provide results in interactive time. The second use case will be based on cloud gaming and 3D visualization. XLcloud is a three-year long collaborative project funded by the French FSN (Fonds national pour la Société Numérique) programme.

The CompatibleOne Story: From Collaboration to Industry
During this talk, we would like to propose an update of the OW2 project CompatibleOne and how it transforms from a pure R&D effort into an innovative cloud service offering. We will expose the diverse issues we have been through those last years since the inception of the project til the creation of a start-up with commercial opportunities. We expect this session to deliver a pragmatic and valuable message to the OW2 project leads.

Re-VAMP load testing with CLIF for continuous integration on the cloud
When it comes to automating tests, particularly in continuous integration, you expect your application to be built, deployed, tested, and finally get a pretty test report. But if you think about performance testing of a distributed application, to be deployed other a cloud, this becomes really challenging... Beyond the automatic build of your application components, would it be possible to automate the instantiation of necessary virtual machines over the cloud, the installation of necessary middleware, the deployment and the configuration of components, for both the application under test and the load injection system? If you liked the last year's talk about CLIF meeting Jenkins, you will enjoy their adventure with VAMP!<br />

erOCCI, a Scalable, Model-based REST API Framework
While REST architecture has been widely adopted for web services, the lack of standard formalism for their description prevents from implementations interoperability. The erocci framework, based on erlang/OTP platform, implements the OCCI specification for building interoperable, self-documented web services. Building a scalable web service is as simple as describing your application model in an XML document and choosing amongst existing data backend. It can be extended in various ways to adapt to data sources (database, 3rd party web services, DBUS APIs, etc.), protocols (HTTP, XMPP, etc.), authentication mechanisms, etc.

ProActive Cloud Automation: Workflow Scheduling & Orchestration
ProActive OW2 features management of heterogeneous private Clouds, with burst capacity on Data Center and Public clouds. Offering full accounting and security, ProActive handles multi-tenant Cloud, and a smooth path for application migration to the Cloud thanks to comprehensive interfaces (Web Graphical Studio, CLI, Java and REST, User and Admin Portals). This presentation demonstrates the ProActive Cloud Automation product, especially in the framework of Open Stack. With OW2 ProActive Cloud Automation you can automate the deployment of your complex multi-VMs applications. You simplify self-service deployment, as well as automate the delivery of in production services. You set and control application elasticity with automated scaling-up and down, horizontally and vertically. Once you define the service deployment, you are able to deploy anywhere with workflow reversibility. With unified cloud management, applications execute on multi-vendor private, public and hybrid clouds. Industrial use cases are reported and showcased. Unique characteristics of ProActive are the capacity to manage both Virtual and Physical machines, to orchestrate native and virtualized applications, together with Workflow automation. Second Speaker: Brian Amedro, ActiveEon, CTO, brian.amedro@activeeon.com.

Emerginov: An OW2 African Adventure - From Hackathons to the Cloud
Emerginov project has been incubated in OW2 for 3 years. This PHP PaaS had 3 main goals: - provide a technical open source multimedia solution for innovation in Africa - federate a community of African innovators - build a library of business services in open sources matching African needs The presentation deals with this specific innovation ecosystem and the lessons learned from the creation of the African community. It details the different steps that we performed to become a reference innovative platform in the area: the hackathons, webinars, innovation forum. It also provides some assets on the difficulties related to this local environment and the need for a cloud ready solution for the main actors.

Industrializing Machine Image Creation for Cloud Environments
Agility and automation are key factors into today’s cloud era. It has never been easier to provision new instances on-demand with a few command lines. However, the actual machine images used to provision these instances, are typically still created and maintained by hand. To fully harness the cloud, organizations need to automate software and application onboarding. This presentation will explore how you can use the open-source Hammr command-line tool to automate machine image creation for cloud environments, including OpenStack, CloudStack and many more, from a single configuration file. You can also migrate workloads to cloud, and automate your end-to-end software development processes by integrating Hammr as part of your DevOps tool chain to easily build machine images then deploy and maintain your live running instances. This is a practical presentation with examples and live demo. UShareSoft will be submitting Hammr to OW2.
